A Florida woman swimming recently in the Wekiva River, north of Orlando, was attacked by an 8- to 10-foot alligator that bit her at least twice, tearing off her arm from above the elbow. According to the Orlando Sentinel, a nearby kayaker came to the rescue of Rachael D. Lilienthal. She beat on the alligator with a paddle until it released Lilienthal.
